Holyoke teacher may have been fired improperly

A hearing on this case will be held

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A fired Holyoke teacher is hoping to get his old job back.

Holyoke teacher’s union president, Gus Morales, told 22News the Department of Labor Relations found probable cause that he may have been improperly fired this summer because of his union activities.

Morales is one of several Holyoke teachers whose contracts were not renewed. He said the state takeover of Holyoke’s school system had nothing to do with his termination.

“We don’t know what the situation is because the previous administration is no longer in charge,” said Morales. “So while the receiver had nothing to do with what happened, it falls on him and his administration on what to do next.”

Morales added that a hearing on his case might not take place until December.
