HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Charlie Baker was in Holyoke Tuesday to announce $5.5 million dollars that will support student learning at Holyoke Community College and Springfield Technical College.
They money will be used for specific capital projects that will upgrade and maintain campus buildings. Those renovations will allow the schools to attract and retain students who will go on to meet the high demand for skilled workers.
Gov. Baker told 22News, “There’s nothing more frustrating to me than having people who are looking for work, and people who are looking for workers, and not figure out how to put the two of them together. “
The governor toured part of the HCC campus with many western Massachusetts elected officials, along with his Workforce Skills Cabinet. Those secretaries of Economic Affairs, Education, and Workplace Development work together to identify ways to bridge that skills gap.
