Jaws of life used to free boy trapped inside van

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Four people were taken to the hospital following a crash at the Springfield/East Longmeadow line involving a box truck and a minivan.

East Longmeadow Police Sgt. Steven Manning told 22News that the crash took place shortly before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Parker Street and Allen Street. Four people inside the minivan had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, but the truck driver did not.

Manning said that One of the people inside the van, a boy, had his foot stuck inside a mangled door frame. Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that firefighters had to use the jaws of life to get him out.

All of the people involved in the crash are expected to survive, Manning said.
