Driver suffers minor injuries after a car fire on Route 202

The driver was able to make it out of the car with minor injuries

HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) – An accident on Route 202 in Holyoke closed the road for several hours after a car caught fire.

Holyoke Police Lt Michael McCoy told, around 1:00 a.m., 22News a 20-year-old Westfield woman was driving the car that crashed into a utility pole, took down some wires, rolled over and burst into flames.

The woman was able to get out of the wreck on her own before it became totally engulfed in flames. Lt. McCoy said she was taken to the hospital but had only suffered scratches on her leg.

A section of Route 202 was closed near the reservoir until 4:00 a.m. Tuesday. Lt McCoy said firefighters had to wait about 45 minutes until the power was shut off before they could put out the fire.
