Dog owners could soon face a fine in Greenfield

Dogs must be registered before September 1st

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Franklin County dog owners are on notice. Starting September 1st, Greenfield Police will call you to court for failing to register your dog.

Greenfield Town Clerk Deborah Tuttle said 447 dogs are not registered, despite reminders. The registration deadline was on April 1st, which is the deadline to register every year.

Starting September 1st, Greenfield Police will issue a summons to court for all owners whose dogs still aren’t registered. Owners that have to be summonsed to court may have to pay a fine and fees.

To avoid going to court, register your dog before September 1st by calling or visiting the town clerk. If your dog has died, you also need to contact the clerk’s office to remove your dog’s name from the list. Call 413-772-1555
