SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – According to a new CBS News/New York Times poll, six in ten Americans say race relations are bad in our nation.
40-percent of whites and blacks say race relations are only getting worse.
22News asked some people right here in western Massachusetts how they felt about the state of race relations here at home.
Coureton Dolton from Cummington said, “The ideals are wonderful in this area, but I do feel there is a long way to go. Especially seeing things like the Black Lives Matter signs blacked out and turned into All Lives Matter signs.”
Steven Estrella of Springfield told 22News, “I really don’t think there should be no reason to discriminate black, American, not American, Italian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, you know, everybody just equal.”
Eight in 10 African Americans also believe the criminal justice system is biased against them, and that’s up from 2013. According to the NAACP, African Americans are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of white people.
