(CNN) – The first debate of the 2016 election season is in the books, and it was one entertaining affair.
24 million viewers watched the debate, according to Nielsen, making it the highest-rated primary debate ever.
Donald Trump grabbed the headlines, but did he help or hurt his chances to win the nomination?
With the raise of a hand, Trump stole the show in the first Republican presidential debate on Fox News. The billionaire was the only candidate who refused to rule out a third-party run if he falls short of winning the GOP nomination.
Trump also had a tense exchange with moderator Megyn Kelly when he was asked about past comments he made about women. Trump offered no apologies for his comments, and took issue with Kelly’s question.
As for the other candidates — some pundits praised the debate performances of Florida senator Marco Rubio and Ohio governor John Kasich.
