GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A stretch of Greenfield’s Main Street that was closed Thursday night due to a water main break, was closed again for several hours Friday. According to Greenfield Police, the road was shut down from Federal Street to Franklin Street in order to make additional repairs.
Greenfield Firefighter Chip Thurston told 22News that the ruptured pipe was likely caused by the effort to put out a massive house fire on Conway Street Thursday afternoon. “We used so much water from the hydrants, it overtaxed the water mains,” Thurston said.
The roadway re-opened to traffic at around 2:00 Friday afternoon.
