FRESNO, Ca. (KSEE) – An art display titled “I Hate White People But Loves You” has hit a nerve at Fresno, California’s ArtHop festival.
Kezia Harrell’s display almost wasn’t shown when the studio became concerned about the title.
“While you love your own blackness in a way you also desire whiteness. It’s kinda a psychological theme. I’m not exactly saying I hate white people. It’s deeper than that,” Harrell explained.
She is a student at the San Francisco Art Institute and has family in Fresno. She says the studio asked her to change the title of her show. When she refused they canceled her display.
“I posted the conversation on social media, and I guess that created a lot of buzz. I guess people were upset that voice at Art Hop wasn’t being spoken,” Harrell said.
