FEEDING HILLS, Mass. (WWLP) – An intersection in Feeding Hills notorious for traffic jams, long lights, and dangerous turns is finally getting a makeover.
The intersection is where Westfield St, Southwick St. and Springfield St. meet in Feeding Hills, and carries Route 57 and 187 through Feeding Hills. The improvement project is still in its design phase, but many drivers are already welcoming the change.
The superintendent of the Department of Public Works told 22News they plan on realigning lanes on Southwick Street, changing traffic lights, and widening roads.
We talked to Agawam resident Elaine Driscoll, who told 22News the intersection has been a headache for drivers for quite some time. “The way you turn to the right, you can’t go straight, and the only one you can go straight is the left hand turn and it’s all bogged up. That’s really been a problem road for quite a long time.”
Although the project is still a couple years out, the intersection is expected to be milled and paved by the end of the month. All of the work will be funded entirely by the state.
