CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police have arrested one suspect, and are still looking for another one, in connection with an attack on a bar owner. Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that Wilmer Torres, 34, of Springfield, is facing multiple charges for the July 28 incident at Chiefs Lounge on Chicopee Street.

Torres and another man allegedly broke into the bar at around 5:00 that morning, and hit the 64 year-old owner with a metal pipe. The owner was later taken to the hospital and had to undergo surgery.

Chicopee police released surveillance video of the attack to the public, and Wilk says that officers were able to find Torres Tuesday evening, thanks to tips they received. He said that as the department continues to search for the second suspect, they are asking anyone with information to call detectives at (413) 594-1730, or they can text a tip.

Torres is facing several charges, including armed robbery, assault and battery on a person over 60, larceny over $250, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was held without bail, pending his arraignment scheduled for Wednesday in Chicopee District Court.
