Arson & Bomb Squad called after box was left outside courthouse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A one-block stretch of State Street in Springfield was shut down for about an hour late Monday morning, as members of the arson and bomb squad investigated a suspicious package.

springfield suspicious package 2Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that a black plastic container that “looks like a battery box” was left in front of the federal courthouse at 300 State Street.

Homeland Security was also called in to investigate. State Street was closed from Spring Street to Eliot Street as they worked.

Once it was determined that he box was not dangerous, the roadway was re-opened shortly after 11:30 A.M.
