NORTHFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters were able to put out a fire at a Lane Construction Company plant in Northfield Monday night.

Northfield Fire Chief Skip Dunnell told 22News the fire started just before 9:00pm at the hot mix asphalt plant located on Mount Hermon Station Road.

Chief Dunnell said firefighters were able to put out the fire within an hour.

Since there were no fire hydrants nearby, he said crews had to relay water from a pond about 3,000 feet away.
The cause of the fire’s still being investigated but Dunnell said he believes no foul play was involved.

Fire departments from Bernardston, Irving, and Greenfield as well as Hinsdale, New Hampshire were all called in to assist Northfield.

The Gill Fire Department also assisted by providing coverage for Northfield at the fire station.

There were no reports of any injuries.
