PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Pittsfield man returned to Massachusetts and was arraigned Monday afternoon in Central Berkshire District Court in connection with Friday’s deadly shooting.

D.A. David Capeless told 22News 18-year-old Thomas Lee Newman, Jr. pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and one count of armed assault with intent to commit murder. The judge ordered Newman to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail.

Newman was found and arrested on Sunday in Utica, New York after an intensive investigation into a shooting on Tyler Street in Pittsfield that left 18-year-old Keenan S. Pellot, Jr. dead and a 17-year-old man wounded.

Capeless said Newman agreed to voluntarily return to Massachusetts to face the charges. He’s due back in court on August 10th for a pretrial conference.

NOTE: The investigation is being conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department, State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and State Police Crime Scene Services and Firearms Identification Sections.
