Off-duty Mass. state trooper arrested for domestic assault

The trooper has been relieved of duty pending a status hearing

ROYALSTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty Massachusetts State Police Trooper was arrested on domestic assault and battery charges.

State police arrested the 36-year-old trooper around 3 a.m. Sunday in Royalston.

The woman involved was taken to Heywood Hospital in Gardner.

Police say the trooper was relieved of duty until a hearing can be held. The outcome will determine whether his status at work will be modified while his court case is pending. His service weapons, ammunition and cruiser have all been taken and his license to carry a firearm was suspended indefinitely.

The trooper remains unidentified due to state law, which prohibits releasing the names of people charged with domestic violence under certain circumstances.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Gardner District Court.
