DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man who struck and killed a college student with his SUV while she was jogging last year has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison and will lose his driver’s license for 15 years.
A Norfolk Superior Court judge sentenced 45-year-old Jeffrey Bickoff of Sharon on Friday. A jury recently convicted him of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.
Prosecutors say Bickoff struck and killed 20-year-old Haley Cremer while she was jogging in Sharon in June 2014. The Simmons College student was thrown 85 feet by the impact.
Bickoff apologized to Cremer’s family just before he was sentenced. He said he never meant to hurt anyone.
Bickoff has a history of driving violations, including 10 speeding tickets and 10 crashes that were his fault.
