HOLYOKE Mass. (WWLP) – Sunday’s services for Gunnery Sgt Thomas Sullivan brought special meaning to tonight’s Valley Blue Sox game. The Blue Sox held a Military Appreciation Night in Holyoke Sunday night.

Before the first pitch was thrown at MacKenzie Stadium on Beech Street, there was a special ceremony to honor the men and woman of our armed forces.

People told 22News they were keeping Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan and his family in their thoughts. Robert Florio of Chicopee said, “Today, with the loss of one of our own in Springfield you know my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I can just imagine what you’re going through.”

Darlene Blaney of West Springfield told 22News, “They fight for our freedom and he died for our freedom, he was protecting us. And it’s great for these young kids here at the Blue Socks game to see that.”
