Local drug ring taken down by multiple agencies

Over 7,000 bags of heroin were seized in the arrest

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Detectives from Holyoke, Chicopee and the Berkshires worked together to bring down a large scale narcotics distribution ring.

Holyoke Police Detective Liam Glasheen of the Narcotics/Vice Division told 22News that on Thursday, July 23rd, search warrants were served at the same time throughout western Massachusetts after a lengthy investigation.

Det. Glasheen said the distribution center was in Holyoke, but it also encompassed Chicopee and the Berkshires. Agencies served warrants at 75 Lyman Street in Holyoke and a storage facility in Chicopee, and arrested Hector R. Almodovar.

Almodovar was charged with trafficking heroin and was issued a criminal complaint for trafficking heroin. Det. Glasheen said 7,400 bags of heroin, cash, and Almodovar’s vehicle were seized.

Almodovar was arriagned Friday at the Holyoke District Court, and faces more charges for trafficking heroin in Chicopee

NOTE: Members of the Holyoke Police Narcotics Vice Unit, along with the Chicopee Narcotics Unit, Mass State Police Gang Unit, FBI Western Mass Gang Task Force, DEA, and Berkshire County Narcotics Task Force served the search warrants.
