GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Many scientists are working on drugs that can delay and possibly cure Alzheimer’s, but many people simply can’t wait for the time it would take to test these prospective drugs. Greenfield resident Carlos Anadino told 22News that he tries to exercise his mind to stay mentally sharp.
“Reading is pretty good for the mind, like they say, the mind is a terrible thing to waste and that’s true,” he explained. “You have to do a lot of reading. Don’t get stuck watching TV, it’s good for the news, but doing a lot of reading is good for the mind.”
There are ways you can protect your brain by making simple lifestyle changes:
First, get enough sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, see a doctor for treatment. Second, learn something new that challenges you, like a musical instrument or a language, to strengthen connections between nerve cells. And finally, try to keep stress at bay. Yoga and relaxing the mind helps a lot of people stay center.
Doctors say making these lifestyle changes will strengthen and protect your brain.
