Is there a conflict between MGM & MassDOT?

MGM is looking to push its scheduled opening date back

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – MGM and MassDOT are working on two major projects in the same area at the same time; combined, they cost a billion dollars.

MGM is waiting on the Gaming Commission to see if it will be allowed to push its opening date back to the fall of 2018. MGM asked for that opening because the I-91 construction in Springfield will be complete by then.

MassDOT highway administrator Tom Tinlin told 22News he didn’t know if that was necessary to do now.  He said, “We felt it was a little premature but we can’t run MGM’s business, and they have every right to do that and frankly they should do that, our job is to build a highway system as quickly as we can and as safely as we can.”

MGM President Mike Mathis told 22News that they need a firm date to open due to scheduling conventions. The I-91 project is expected to be finished between February and July 2018.
