SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A stretch of Hall of Fame Avenue (West Columbus Avenue) will be shut down beginning the week of August 3, as construction intensifies on the Interstate 91 reconstruction project. Hall of Fame Avenue will be shut down between Hampden Street and Boland Way. Drivers hoping to head southbound in the area can turn left onto East Columbus Avenue, then right onto Boland Way, before making a left back onto Hall of Fame Avenue.
Entrances to the North Parking Garage under Interstate 91 will remain open.
While the closure does not begin until Monday, August 3, road work in the area will begin on Monday, July 27.
MassDOT says this part of the project is designed to widen Hall of Fame Avenue to accommodate increased traffic during the highway construction.
