HOLYOKE Mass. (WWLP) – School supplies for children in need are being collected, and you can help.
Friday, the sixth annual Stuff the Bus event started at the Holyoke Mall to collect donations for new school supplies to be distributed to children who are homeless. The campaign is shared by the United Way of Pioneer Valley and the Peter Pan Bus Company.
Sylvia De Haas-Phillips from United Way of Pioneer Valley, told 22News, “Trying to give them the school supplies they need. So they can start school ready to learn. So we provide backpacks filled with all the school supplies that the schools have told us the kids need.”
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse said, “This year alone 400 young people in our public school system will get backpacks, free dictionaries, other school supplies to be ready for September.”
Collections are taking place July 24 through August 15th throughout the entire region.
Six flags is offering discounted tickets to some of the families that are donating.
