BALTIMORE (WBAL) – New details are emerging about the chain of events that lead to Baltimore’s April riots.
On the morning of April 27, a rumor spread on social media calling for high school students to take part in a purge, spurred by the movie of the same name that calls for 12 hours of lawlessness.
The target of the rumor was the Mondawmin Mall area in northwest Baltimore. Just down the street that day was Freddie Gray’s funeral. His death in police custody had already fueled enough tension to cause scattered violence after demonstrations that weekend.
