Chicopee State Park jam packed on hot summer day

Some didn't come to escape the heat, they wanted to be part of it

CHICOPEE Mass. (WWLP) – This was the summer day western Massachusetts has been waiting for. Chicopee State Park was jam-packed Sunday with sun-worshippers and folks who know how to get out of the heat and have a cool swim. Some didn’t come to escape the heat, they wanted to be part of it.

Glenn Moiselle of Chicopee told 22News, “This is great, I’ve been waiting for hot all summer, this is finally hot weather. This place is so full, we had to park in the back parking lot. Which is alright, there was a spot.”

If park visitors weren’t in the water, they were on the beach getting ready to go into the water. It’s been weeks since they had as good a reason to take in the summer pleasures of the state park.

Going swimming was only part of the good reasons for being there. There was plenty of activity in the adjoining picnic grounds, enough to make a day of it with family and friends.

Jose Rodriguez of Chicopee said, “I’m here with my parents, my sister, my nephews, I’m having a great time on a hot day, and I’m just enjoying the day, making burgers and hot dogs.”

Regardless of how these folks celebrated a hot summer day, they’ll tell you it sure beats staying home. Summer at its best, here in western Massachusetts.
