Massachusetts smoking ban designed to protect children

The Public Health Committee hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 PM.

SPRINGFIELD Mass. (WWLP) – Lawmakers are looking to ban smoking in cars to protect children.

State lawmakers are looking to create a bill that would prohibit anyone from smoking in a car with a child in a car seat. The new law is designed to protect children, who are the most vulnerable to cigarette smoke. Anyone that violates the ban will face a $100 fine.

22News spoke to people in Springfield to see what they had to say. Wayne Brown said, “I concur that it should be illegal because of the damage it causes.”

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:00 PM in front of the Public Health Committee.
