WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The American Red Cross Six Flags Big E Blood Drive is the biggest blood drive in Western Massachusetts. Hundreds of people are expected to donate, giving to hospital patients in need. 22News is collaborating with the Red Cross, 94.7 WMAS, Six Flags New England, and The Big E for today’s blood drive.
All blood types are needed, especially O-, A- and B-.
There are typically fewer blood donors in the summer, because so many people are traveling, but the need to maintain the blood supply in Western Mass. is still there, according to Red Cross spokesperson Jecholia Ellis.
Ellis also told 22News a recent Red Cross survey of regular donors showed that 40 percent are away on vacation the week before and the week after Independence Day, making the need for Thursday’s drive even greater.
Thursday’s blood drive will take place from 12:00pm – 7:00pm at the Big E’s Better Living Center. Each donor will get a complimentary pass to Six Flags New England.
