WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News, the American Red Cross of Western Massachusetts and Six Flags New England teamed up to collect more blood than any other time.
During the summer months, blood donation is down, but the demand for blood doesn’t take a vacation. That’s why the Better Living Center at the Big E transformed itself into a massive blood collection location on Thursday.
Blood donors told 22News giving blood is very personal.
“My daughter was in a position where she needed blood, someone that I don’t know gave it to her,” said Ace Williams of Springfield.
Lisa Pease of South Hadley mentioned to 22News, “my mom was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer about 3 months ago.”
The goal is to collect 767 pints of blood before 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Six Flags is giving a one-day pass to everyone who donates blood.
