Accused child rapist from Springfield arrested in New York City

The twelve-year-old victim became pregnant as a result of the rape.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Springfield wanted on sex offender charges was arrested in New York City today. Angel Acevedo, 39, was wanted on a state warrant issued in Springfield charging him with two counts of “Rape of a Child with Force”.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, the crime happened in the Indian Orchard section of the city. The twelve-year-old victim became pregnant as a result of the rape.

Detective Gizenia Sedergren of the Springfield Police Department’s Special Victims Unit obtained the arrest warrant for Acevedo and assisted in his capture.

Detective Sedergren worked alongside U.S. Marshals, NYPD detectives, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and agents from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office to apprehend the fugitive, once it was determined he was hiding in New York City.

The investigation further revealed that Acevedo was using an address in East Harlem where he was arrested.

He is currently being held by the New York City Department of Corrections until he is brought back to Massachusetts.
