Police find loaded handgun in baby bag

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police arrested two Tuesday afternoon on Pearl Street after being flagged down by a woman who was walking with another woman and the two men who were later arrested.

Reyshawn Pannell, 19 and Rodney McCants, 20 were arrested after police found an unregistered loaded handgun in a diaper bag Pannel was carrying, he was also carrying a young child. The woman they were walking with told police she was having a problem with McCants, who at that time was bleeding from the head. He told police he did not know how it happened.

During the incident, McCants became agitated and began yelling at officers to leave his cousin, Pannell alone and attempted to stop officers from securing Pannell.

Panell was arrested on charges of Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition with an FID and Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number. McCants was arrested on charges of Intimidation of a witness and Resisting Arrest

Pannel was then placed in custody.
