(MSP) – Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police fugitive unit and Lynn Police officers today arrested a homicide suspect who was one of Puerto Rico’s Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives.

State troopers from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Lynn officers converged on Joel Marin-Maldonado, 33, formerly of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, after he entered a building on Munroe Street in Lynn. Police had set up surveillance of the street early this morning and observed and arrested Marin-Maldonado at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Earlier this week officials from the Policia de Puerto Rico and the Fusion Center of Puerto Rico contacted Massachusetts State Police to report that they had intelligence suggesting Marin-Maldonado might be in the Lynn area. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was possibly working out of temp agency in the area.

Marin-Maldonado is wanted in Puerto Rico for a stabbing murder that occurred in 2013.

Marin-Maldonado was booked at the Lynn Police Station and charged as a fugitive from justice. He was arraigned in Lynn District Court and faces extradition proceedings.
