Glitches grounds flights and halt trading

The coincidence sparked fears of a possible cyber-attack

(NBC NEWS) – Major computer glitches caused headaches in the business world and for thousands of travelers Wednesday.

First, United Airlines was forced to ground all of their worldwide flights to fix a computer issue. Hours later the New York Stock Exchange suspended all floor trading for the same reason.

The coincidence sparked fears of a possible cyber-attack, but both companies and the federal government say internal technical failures were to blame.

Stocks were already experiencing a down day when the NYSE’s problems arose, while United says about 3,500 flights were impacted by its computer problems. Delays are expected to last at least into the evening.
