ALEPPO, Syria (NBC) – Syrian rebels claim they have taken control of a scientific research center in the northern city of Aleppo.
Using tanks, rockets and fighters from three militant groups, the rebels say they were able to take control of the facility after a long battle with government forces.
Aleppo was Syria’s most populous city before the civil war started.
Rebel groups and Syrian government forces have been fighting for control of the city since 2012.
If rebels take Aleppo, the Syrian government would be cut off from areas in the country’s west it still controls.
