Amherst hosts Independence Day celebration

Families gathered for pre-fireworks festivities in the field behind McGuirk Stadium.

AMHERST Mass. (WWLP) – 4th of July celebrations took place across the country and Amherst was no exception.

Families gathered for pre-fireworks festivities in the field behind McGuirk Stadium.

The festivities included hot air balloon rides, bounce houses for the kids, carnival games, a mini railroad, a pie eating contest, and lots of other family friendly activities.

22News talked to families who were eager to celebrate their patriotism and take in the festivities.

Teddy Cuyr told 22News, “Yeah and we played over there in the like kid town and on the swing and the bouncy house and Ferris wheel.

Tonight’s fireworks for the town of Amherst began at 9:30.
