In face of Indiana RFRA, Church of Cannabis holds first service

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis group that says the Religious Freedom Restoration Act gives them the legal right to smoke marijuana held its first church service on Wednesday.

Leaders at the newly formed First Church of Cannabis say there would be no smoking at Wednesday’s service, which got underway at 12:01 p.m.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said he would take legal action against any church member caught using marijuana.

Bill Levin, the church’s leader, said he would let the legal fight play out in court.
