SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – All lanes of traffic will be reopened Thursday morning after MassDOT crews made emergency repairs to a section of Interstate 91 in downtown Springfield overnight.
Two of the three lanes of the highway were closed from 9:00pm Wednesday to 5:00am Thursday as to repair holes in the highway deck.
Two lanes of the highway were shut down in that same area Monday morning, due to a pothole in the center lane. The incident caused heavy traffic backups, as it happened during the height of the commute.
The first work in the years-long project to replace the entire highway deck begins later this month, with major construction to begin in the fall.
