Teacher charged with trying to buy child porn online

Federal prosecutors said Scott Peeler was arrested Tuesday

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Southbridge middle math school teacher has been arrested on charges that he tried to buy child pornography from the Philippines online.

Federal prosecutors said Scott Peeler was arrested Tuesday at home in Worcester. He is held until a detention hearing Thursday.

An FBI affidavit says a warranted search at his home Monday found evidence of child pornography on his computers. Prosecutors say Peeler acknowledged discussing child pornography online, but denied buying any.

Peeler is not accused of any wrongdoing involving his students.

The Southbridge Public Schools said Peeler has been placed on administrative leave and officials have asked police for an order keeping away from school property. A community meeting is planned next week to answer questions about the case.

An after-hours message seeking comment was left Tuesday with Peeler’s federal public defender in Boston.
