Two brothers charged with murder in deadly Springfield shooting

Erik and Yeyson Rivera are being held without bail

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Policarrested two brothers in a deadly shooting in Springfield’s North End Tuesday.

25-year-old Erik Rivera and his brother 27-year-old Yeyson Rivera are both charged with murder and were ordered held without bail pending their arraignments Tuesday in Springfield District Court.

Springfield Police arrested the Rivera brothers in the death of a 20 year-old man who’d been shot in the chest Tuesday afternoon, and died at Baystate Medical Center.

Another victim suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and back.  He is expected to survive his wounds.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News the men were both shot at the intersection of Prospect and Massasoit Streets. Someone was trying to bring the more seriously wounded victim to the hospital, but he called 9-1-1 after the victim collapsed at Allendale Street.

Sgt. Delaney also told 22News that the victims were the intended targets of the shooting, and that the shooting was not random.

Springfield police arrested brothers 25-year-old Erik Rivera and 27-year-old Yeyson Rivera and charged them with murder and several firearms charges.

The two are being held without the right to bail. They will be arraigned in Springfield District Court Wednesday morning.
