(CNN/WCVB) – A Massachusetts woman got quite a shock when police pulled her over recently. Instead of a warning or a ticket, she got a reunion, with her soldier son.

Darlene Macallister remembers that sinking feeling as she saw the blue flashing lights behind her. I was scared. Like-, what did I do wrong? I know I was speeding a little bit trying to to get home,” said Macallister.

Not one, but three Hanson police officers pulling her over, politely telling her to get out of the car. “‘What’s up with your sticker? When did you get that?’ when did you get that? What he was doing was distracting me,” said Macallister.

Distracting her until her teenage son, turned soldier, Alan, could pull off the surprise homecoming he’s been plotting for weeks. “Oh, it definitely caught me off guard because I just had hung up with him saying he wasn’t gonna be home because his flight was canceled. And the police officer had him call and tell me that,” said Macallister.

Alan, an army engineer based at fort Carson, Colorado, says the look on his mother’s face was priceless. PV2 Alan Macallister told WCVB, I can’t explain it, it was one of those looks like you’re so happy but so pissed off at the same time. But, Yeah I got her!”

Mother and son will re-connect with family over the July 4th holiday, and celebrate Alan’s 19th birthday. And mom is making it no secret, one good prank deserves another.

“Oh, I’ve already got mine figured out,” said Darlene Macallister.
