SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Connecticut River in Downtown Springfield came alive Saturday with the Dragon Boat festival.
The annual event hosted by the Pioneer Valley Riverfront club called attention to the elaborate roads and their colorfully costumed crews.
The activities at the park complimented the eye catching dragon boats moving between Memorial Bridge and the park.
The boating served as good therapy for a crew of breast cancer survivors. “Being together in my boat are 22 women who are breast cancer survivors and with so many there’s amazing feeling you get when when you’re all paddling you’re all together, It’s pretty awesome,” said Christine Johnson.
Among the organizers of the Dragon boat festival, the bay state health rays of hope, which raises money for cancer research and programs helping cancer survivors.
