State Police arrest NY man in Springfield for trafficking heroin

Cruz-Sanchez was charged with trafficking heroin and cited for "Following Too Closely"

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State Police arrested a New York man on Thursday for trafficking heroin on Interstate 91 in Springfield.

Carlos Cruz-Sanchez was driving north on I-91 in a 1999 Honda Odyssey when Sergeant Brendan Shugrue pulled him over for following too closely behind another vehicle.

Assisted by Trooper Theodore Tudryn, Sgt. Shugrue searched Cruz-Sanchez’s vehicle and found more than 180 grams of a substance believed to be heroin.

29-year-old Cruz-Sanchez, of Bronx, New York, was arrested for trafficking heroin and cited for “Following Too Closely”.  He was booked at the Springfield State Police barracks and brought to the Hampshire House of Correction.

He is being held on $50,000 bail pending his arraignment in Springfield District Court on Friday.
