BOSTON (WWLP) – An unlikely pair coming together to block taxpayer dollars from being spent on the Olympic Games if Boston is chosen as the host city.

The group “Citizens For A Say” hopes to get a question on the 2016 statewide ballot, to make sure Massachusetts residents aren’t on the hook to pay for the Olympic Games if costs run over.

Boston is in the running to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. There is a push to prevent taxpayer dollars from being spent on the Olympics.

You may remember Independent candidate for Governor Evan Falchuk. Well, he’s teamed up with the group, led by Republicans that successfully led the ballot question to repeal the automatic gas tax increases last year.

They hope to gather enough signatures to place a question on the 2016 ballot allowing Massachusetts voters to decide whether tax dollars should be spent on the games.

SOT Evan Falchuk, Citizens for a Say” The legislature has twice voted down proposals to do that and the voters have to protect themselves from the cost of the Olympics if their leaders won’t do it.”

Boston Olympic organizers plan to roll out a modified plan next week.
