Video: Tornado hits Michigan town

PORTLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A resident captured on video the tornado that ripped through Portland on Monday.

On Wednesday, the Ionia Department of Public Safety released the video showing the effects of the tornado just prior to it hitting Portland. It was taken at Grider-Portland Agency. Police say the majority of the damage occurred east of where the video was taken.

The EF-1 tornado touched down just outside the eastern Ionia County town around 2:30 p.m. Monday. It traveled about four miles into the city, mostly along the Grand River Avenue corridor, before lifting. Dozens of structures were damaged, but no one was seriously hurt.
