Street in Springfield to be renamed for retired Chief Justice

On June 30th, Terrence Street will re-named Justice Roderick L. Ireland Way

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A unique honor for a Springfield favorite son. Retired Massachusetts Chief Justice Roderick Ireland will have a street in his old Springfield neighborhood named in his honor.

This won’t be the first time Massachusetts’ first African American chief justice has been saluted by his hometown. Judge Ireland and his wife got recognition from the City Council several years ago.

On June 30th, Terrence Street, where he grew up in the old neighborhood will re-named Justice Roderick L. Ireland Way. He retired as Chief Justice in 2014.
