SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A prominent Springfield community figure and a Dean for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts is retiring, but not from the ministry.
Reverend James Munroe had his final liturgy Sunday at the Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield.
Munroe, who is 67, will be going to New York to assist two other Churches, one of them in Manhattan.
Munroe has served at several other churches in western Massachusetts, and has become known for his work in helping the homeless. He told 22News, “They are my brothers and sisters, and I’m grateful for the privilege of being out in the street with some of those who are struggling, and just sharing a little bit in it. I’m thankful for them.”
Munroe was the sixth Dean of the Christ Church Cathedral. Rev. Canon Tom Callard will now be the priest in charge.
