Protest in Northampton condemns Charleston church shooting

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts showed its anger and sorrow over the Charleston, South Carolina church massacre last week.

A small but determined group of protesters gathered on Main Street in Northampton Sunday afternoon. Their signs reflected their outrage over the racially motivated shooting that took nine lives in that South Carolina church.

Carlie Tarta Kov of Amherst told 22News, “I think our future as a nation is dependent on people like me, who care to stand up; I personally am sick and tired of being sick and tired of racism and its effects.”

Here in western Massachusetts, as in much of the country, social activists and members of the clergy have been at the forefront, condemning the killings at the Charleston church prayer meetings.
