CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) – You know something? If the Beach Boys musical genius Brian Wilson didn’t have severe emotional problems, there’d be no dramatic excitement to the deeply sensitive “Love and Mercy”. And we’d never have gotten to see Paul Dano and John cusack play the same role at different stages of Wilson’s life.

As exceptional as Paul Dano is playing the younger, more passionate Brian Wilson, and John Cusack as the more mature, but obviously unstable older Wilson, It’s the flamboyant Paul Giamatti who steals the picture as he does all his movies, as Wilson’s slightly eccentric care giver.

Let’s not forget the supremely talented Elizabeth Banks competing for control of Wilson’s future. Musically “Love and Mercy” will delight fans of the Beach Boys. This rich history explores how pushing exceptionally creative talent to the limit, takes a terrible toll on the mental stability of a sensitive performer.

“Love and Mercy” is also a deeply satisfying romantic drama, and having both Paul Dano and John Cusack playing Brian Wilson creates just the right vibrations to carry “Love and Mercy” all the way to 3 stars.

Instead of following the crowds to “Jurassic World”, follow your better Instincts to a truly superior night at the movies
