NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare and Yale-New Haven Health System are discussing an affiliation that would bring L+M into the network of the larger institution that extends from Greenwich to Old Saybrook.
The Day of New London reports L+M President and CEO Bruce Cummings told staff in a letter Friday that a decision has not been made. He says the board of directors is responding to increasing financial pressures and urged the talks with Yale-New Haven.
L+M spokesman Michael O’Farrell confirmed to the newspaper that the letter was distributed to staff.
Cummings cited the state budget passed earlier this month by the legislature that increases taxes on hospital revenue and reduces Medicaid reimbursements.
New London-based L+M already has clinical partnerships with Yale-New Haven for services such as emergency medicine.
