House fire in Springfield injured one firefighter

Firefighters encountered smoke and flames

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A house fire in Springfield’s Bay neighborhood sent one firefighter to the hospital early this Saturday morning.

The house was completely destroyed by this fire which started about a quarter to one this Saturday morning.

Firefighters encountered smoke and flames when they arrived here at 47 Oakwood Terrace. Neighbors told them that the woman that used to reside there had recently moved into an elderly home leaving this house vacant.

One firefighter sustained a leg injury during the fire. He was brought to a nearby hospital, but is expected to survive.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The heat from the fire was so intense that the siding on the home next door melted and it caused some damage.
