Metal fire at the Joseph Freedman scrap metal factory

Firefighters used a special foam to put out the fire.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield firefighters were called to the Joseph Freedman scrap metal factory for a fire just after midnight Thursday.

Springfield Fire Department Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News firefighters were called in to 115 Stevens Street at around 12:15 am where they found a pile of steel shavings on fire.

A special foam had to be used as firefighters worked for nearly two hours to put out the metal chips.

No injuries were reported; it’s not clear what caused the fire.
