Man driving high on heroin nearly hits 2 cops

MALDEN, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 34-year-old drove high on heroin and nearly hit two officers before crashing into a fire hydrant.

William Dotolo of East Falmouth was charged Monday with heroin possession, reckless operation, driving under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident.

Authorities say one officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police say officers in Melrose had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by Dotolo, whose 2011 Infiniti G25 crossed into an oncoming lane and drove toward them. They say they found drug paraphernalia and a substance believed to be heroin.

It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
